You can add Wikipedia markers to show articles on the map. You need to add wiki as parameter. This parameter can be none or an extension for the country for the wikipedia site (see: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=p9pdwsai2hDN-cAocTLhnag).
For this option you still need to use Google Maps API version 2 so use version 2.18 of the plugin and set the google API version to 2.x.
